Vintage Fall Mantel

I absolutely love Fall! It’s the wrap up to our beautiful hot summers here in Cali. It signifies the changing of the Seasons, and is the start of the Holiday season that is to follow. I mean who doesn’t love cool brisk air, fall leaves, comfort food, and comfy sweaters right? I personally love being home and feeling comfy in the Fall. That comfort feeling is magnified when I have added that cozy home décor, the scent of a great candle, or something baking. With Labor day weekend coming to an end and Fall right around the corner I decided to put together a little fall décor today. I didn’t go crazy as we are still having 100 degree weather, and it’s not feeling exactly Fall-ish to me yet. However I have been saving Amber Glass Bottles for a while now in hopes to try out an Amber Glass themed Mantel or Table Scape this year. So today I put it together, and I am absolutely in love with it! So first things first you will need Amber Glass Bottles! As many as possible but I would say at least seven to really make it feel like the focal point of the décor. The more different shapes and sizes the better! My bottles are upcycled wine bottles, root beer bottles, and Kombucha bottles. The Kombucha bottles are the cutest shaped. They look like the old style vintage bottles I love! If you don’t have bottles laying around you can always order some on Amazon. Or just start collecting now early in the season. I mean why not add some wine, root beer, and kombucha to your next shopping list? The cheapest way is always to save some!

First peel as much of the labels as possible. Soak the bottles in hot water and Dawn Dish soap for at least 10 minutes and scrub off any remaining labels with a brillo sponge. The bottles are already looking pretty!

For this Vintage Fall Mantel look, I also wanted to incorporate aged terracotta pots. They are also so beautiful and go so well with the Amber glass. Plus I already had a couple laying around and my goal was to use things I already had and not spend an extra dime on this! I have tried many different techniques to age terracotta planters but for this I used the simplest technique ever! I got the pot wet, wiped off excess water so it was only damp, and then brushed flour on it. It took a total of like 2 minutes and isn’t permanent if I want to wipe it off in the future. Genius hack!

Next I shopped my own home! Haha to anyone that doesn’t know what that means. It means I went through my OWN home and looked for anything that looked aged or old that I could couple with the theme of ” Vintage Décor.” I found 2 rusted cans in my stack of planters in my backyard. (I save tin cans and use them for planting clippings from my larger plants.) So these items were truly old. I also found some old brass candlestick holders I was using in my bedroom. They are truly old as we.ll I bought them at Habitat for humanity long ago. I also had some faux aged keys I bought from Hobby Lobby laying on another shelf in my house, and some cute old books I bought at a local vintage store, I snagged those too. Lastly, I grabbed all neutral pumpkins I had from previous years décor to add to the Mantel! These were my finds…

After collecting all the items. The fun part of decorating the mantel started! Some things found are truly old, some things were manufactured to look vintage or old, and somethings I crafted to look vintage as well. However, I can truly say in person it looks completely authentic!!! It looks like everything on the mantel is a true vintage found piece. It feels so warm an comforting! It is absolutely charming!! I love neutral décor but I tend to decorate for the Holidays in rich, rich ,color! This neutral Mantel is something different for me, but I am loving it! I see why neutral is so popular. it is very calming for sure! Here she is all done!
